Amid rapidly declining demand for full-size pickups, Ford Motor Company has announced it will delay the on-sale-date of the 2009 Ford F-150 by two months to the fourth quarter of 2008. The late launch will help Ford dealers sell down inventories of the current F-150 before the new model arrives.

Ford expects U.S. vehicle sales volume in 2008 - including medium and heavy vehicles - to be between 14.7 million and 15.2 million units, compared with the previous assumption of 15 million to 15.4 million units.

In Dearborn, Mich. on Tuesday, Ford marketing chief Jim Farley told PickupTrucks.com that he believes full-size truck sales will account for only 1.5 million units of total U.S. sale volume this year. The number includes all makes and models of full-size trucks. That's 1 million less than were sold annually in 2004 and 2005.
