Chevrolet Still Sells The LUV. It's a Diesel. You Can't Have It.

General Motors is teasing midsize truck buyers by driving this right-hand-drive version of the Chevrolet Colorado around Detroit. This image was caught by our friends at Jalopnik.

In Thailand, this truck is sold as the Chevrolet LUV, using the classic nameplate from the compact Isuzu-sourced pickup GM sold in the U.S. in the 1970s and ‘80s. You may not be aware, but GM also developed the Colorado truck platform with Isuzu in an effort to build a world truck that both automakers could sell in North America and overseas. The truck pictured above has Isuzu’s 3.0-liter four-cylinder common-rail diesel under its hood, rated at 160 horsepower and 246 pounds-feet of torque for the automatic and 265 pounds-feet for the manual transmission. It averages a thrifty 26 mpg in combined city/highway driving. Unfortunately it’s not certified to meet U.S. emission regulations.

If Mahindra has plans to import its diesel pickup from India into the U.S., can’t GM clean up Isuzu’s engine and sell it in the Colorado?
